BELA

BELA: Between Promise and Provocation

As someone who has spent years walking alongside learners, educators, and communities, I’ve come to believe that education is not just a system - it’s a story we write together. The BELA Bill is now part of that story. It brings with it bold proposals, difficult questions, and a chance to rethink how we care for the future of learning in South Africa. I don’t approach BELA as a critic or a cheerleader, but as a thought partner - committed to clarity, compassion, and constructive dialogue. This space is my way of engaging with the Bill: not to simplify it, but to make it accessible; not to settle the debate, but to invite deeper reflection. Because policy should serve people - and education should always begin with dignity.
